Air Brush Maintenance and Repair
I seem to have a bit of an issue with my air brush right now, in that it does not work. When it stopped was while I was working on basing some 'gaunts for Aaron, using a base coat paint. Normally I only use either layer paint or Tamiya brand, but that was the color Aaron wanted and I figured I would be fine if I simply thinned it down more than I would a layer paint.
Several levels of dis- and re-assembly later, and I still have no flow coming out, even with the needle completely removed. This would imply to me some kind of blockage inside the nozzle itself, but I have no idea as to how to properly access that part of the device. Thoughts?

Yes. A Neo, specifically.

If you think the nozzle is clogged your airbrush should come with a cleaning guide and a special wrench that will turn the nut by the front nozzle. My Iwata did at least (a HP-CS I think). The handbook has been really handy with basic stuff like that. Also be really careful with that needle removed. If you bend the tip at all it will drastically change the direction of the paint/air when its used.

The sum total of cleaning instruction that came with the brush was "Cleaning: See Internet". I had, however, forgotten entirely about that little wrench and didn't even realize that the inner nozzle came off.
Good news: the air brush is now officially unclogged!
Bad news: the minuscule little inner-nozzle you need the wrench for broke off when I was re-assembling it. I do believe that my air brush is good and fucked now.

Ack, bummer. If you go to the Iwata site you might be able to replace just that piece depending on the price.

No, that's the thing, the nozzle broke in half with the threaded half INSIDE the airbrush, allotting me NO WAY to remove it.

Also, it seems that the email address supplied in their online documentation, info@iwata-medea.com, does not exist or function...

i'd invest in buying something a little better and easier to use and get replacement parts, tom. look up Badger. they're a heavy hitter in air brushes, and you'll see almost everyone carrying at least one of their units. out of all the ones i've used, its the only brand i'd recommend to others. also happens to be the preferred brand many airbrushers that use them as their source of income go for, including all the airbrush tattoo artists at the Ex and Folkfest.
Badger Airbrush Webpage
and i highly recommend watching the video embedded in their homepage; the guy in the vid has over 16 years professional experience with airbrushing, and he shows a demo painting a kickass sunset mural with a badger.

Sounds.really complicated to get it all apart. Mine unscrews very easy.. all the parts.. no wrenches involved.
Mines also 20 year... and.i cant remember the.brand offhand. My biggest complaint is the size of the paint resevoirs i have.. but i.know i could get bigger ones.if.needed.

Well, the Tech Support guy was rather pleasant and helpful, and I now have the requisite information to send it in for repairs. He is of the opinion that all air brushes, regardless of brand, somehow have a little sensor in them that lets them break at the most in-opportune times. I'm going to get this thing packed up and shipped out to them before me and Aaron head in for today's game.
