wife's nurgle marines
so i'm trying to help the wife rebuild her chaos army up for 6th, and she wants to go nurgle cause she's a big zombies buff. this list is made with models from the Dark Vengeance kit, and some stuff we bought back in 5th. we're gonna use the Chosen's models as her champions so they stand out a little. so here's what we came up with:
Total Roster Cost: 1395
HQ:
. . 1 Typhus
Elite:
. . 1 Helbrute
Troops:
. . 20 Plague Zombies
. . 4 Plague Marines, + 2 Meltagun
. . . . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Fist
. . 4 Plague Marines, + 2 Plasma gun
. . . . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Axe
. . 4 Plague Marines, + 2 Plasma gun
. . . . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Maul
Heavy Support:
. . 9 Havocs, + Mark of Nurgle + 4 Autocannon
. . . . 1 Aspiring Champion
. . 9 Havocs, + Mark of Nurgle + 4 Missile Launcher with Flakk Missiles
. . . . 1 Aspiring Champion
Trying to decide what to use the last 105 points on. we dont want to spend alot of cash to be buying and adding new stuff in, so we're trying to keep it simple, like infantry models, where we can. have thought avout adding a 2nd hellbrute though since there's just the one. anything think that would be a good idea? and if so, is there anyone willing to part with one of the new ones from DV?

Re: wife's nurgle marines
If you drop the Helbrute, can you get three Rhino's for the plague marines?

Re: wife's nurgle marines
Keep the helbrute, add 3 rhinos. 1500 points.
For 2000 add 2 drakes and 160 points of whatever.

Re: wife's nurgle marines
thought about that, but that's buying 2 more rhinos. not purchasing anymore GW models. plus, rhinos tend to be easy first blood kill points and dont fit with the "were a shambling zombie apocalypse army!!! grrr! arrg!", or so wife says.
myself, i see she needs the mobility of the rhinos, but she doesnt really want them, so what can ya do. i think the 2nd hellbrute would help the first one live longer since it means there's 2 to fire AV 7+ weapons at. but i could easily order her another 20 or so zombies from anvil industry or the like.
off-topic, these are the test minis for her nurgle scheme:
the basic guy is base coated grey, then gets a wash of coelia greenshade, followed by casandora yellow. the champion is the same, but his basecoat is leadbelcher to make him stand out more. his gold bits are basecoated balthasar gold before the entire model gets washed with the casandora yellow. it makes a nice sickly green and gold layout in person.
she likes the new scheme cause its just spray paint grey, then 2 washes, and the basic dudes are done save for painting guns and plague knives. we havent decided how to make the knives look poisoned. might do metal with a biel tann green and casandora yellow mix. in the mean time, i need to make up some havoks for her by converting some loyalist missile launchers. the autocannons will be Anvil Industry, once he releases them for ordering.
so given she doesnt want the rhinos, what would you say is better? the hellbrute or more zombies? i'd lean to the brute since she's only got 3 guns in the whole army for cracking AV 14 reliably.

Re: wife's nurgle marines
I'd say more plague marines. 5 men is too small to footslog, even w/ FNP.

Re: wife's nurgle marines
plague marines like rhinos a lot. especially plasma plague-rs. one fitted with a havoc launcher to shine a spot light on stuff makes first round night fight a whole lot more fun.... for you.
The other way to go would be a single ac/lc pred. you could save the extra 10 points by pulling the fist off a plague champ and giving him an axe.
OR,
You could go with a lv 2 nurgle sorc with a biomancy spell. 3/4 nurgle powers are quite good. a sorc is fairly cheap to buy/convert. and the T5 Str 5 Ap2 force axe sorc is quite the beating for the points. and you have 5 points left over to give him meltabombs.

Can you Weapon Virus a Dakkajet? Call a Waaagh now! *wrecks* (actually, you'd probably only get one "1" with the twin-linked)

Re: wife's nurgle marines
I would suggest some anti-air or anti-AV 14
Plague marines and zombies are great toughness, and objective control. But I feel that you would be getting blindsided by air, or unable to crack landraiders
EDIT-just noticed flakk missiles. So I guess need anti-tank obliterator?

Re: wife's nurgle marines
I agree with Jessie.
I've been running Tzeentch marked Oblits and Mutilators. If you can get an endurance off on them, they get kindof good (except get doubled out at S8+.
Otherwise, they're 2+/4++/5+FNP with a 5+IWND

Re: wife's nurgle marines
dont forget the Veterans of the long war on the nurgle oblits (better than tz oblits, dont listen to mark! ) and yes. my nurgle oblits never let me down. nothing like have a swiss army knife that packs a lascannon, plasma cannnon, a twin linked melta-gun, and a power fist.
also, fairly cheap to manufacture from any leftover terminator bitz and some greenstuff. especially nurgle-y ones.

Re: wife's nurgle marines
apparently the new color scheme was easier for her than i thought. she has 'all' her plague marines painted already and did it all while i was at work. guess i need to start converting all the havoks and zombies for her.
so looking at the tips, i altered the list to look like this so far:
Total Roster Cost: 1389
Composition Report:
HQ: 1
Elite: 1
Troops: 4
Heavy: 3
HQ: Typhus (230 pts)
1 Typhus
Elite: (100 pts)
1 Helbrute
Troops: (585 pts)
20 Plague Zombies
4 Plague Marines, + 2 Meltagun
. . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Fist
4 Plague Marines, + 2 Plasma gun
. . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Axe
4 Plague Marines, + 2 Plasma gun
. . 1 Plague Champion, + Power Maul
Heavy Support: (474 pts)
2 Obliterator, + Mark of Nurgle + Veterans of the Long War
6 Havocs, + 2 Autocannon + 2 Missile Launcher with Flakk Missiles
6 Havocs, + 2 Autocannon + 2 Missile Launcher with Flakk Missiles
i changed the way the havocs weapons were dispersed after a suggestion on B&C about keeping them from being lost to focus fire from the fliers.
i kinda like the idea of modeling a nurgle sorc, as it sounds like it could be fun to make.
maybe this to hit 1500:
1 Sorcerer, 110 pts (Mark of Nurgle, Mastery Level 2, Gift of Mutation)

Re: wife's nurgle marines
I like it.
The HS threats are going to be pulling attention away from your shamblers.. and then all of a sudden Typhus will be in their Face.
For an army of zombies, almost all your units, including HQ, can reach out and touch somebody at range as well.
lets hope your opponents remember rule number 1 of surviving the Zombie appocalypse : Cardio.
