Playing around with Coteaz, 1500

For the longest time, I've known that I liked Coteaz. Largely for "I've Been Expecting You", despite it only going off once in all my games ever. I have also begun to take advantage of Spy Network as of late, to force rerolls on Seizing. Let's see if I can finally get around to using the whole package.

HQ:
Inquisitor Coteaz. 100 pts

Troops:

Warband: Psyker x4, Warrior with Plasma, Rhino. 94 pts

Warband: Psyker x4, Warrior with Plasma, Rhino. 94 pts

Warband: Jokaero x2, Plasma Servitor x2, H. Bolter Servitor, Warrior with Plasma x3. 162 pts

Elites:

Paladins x5, Apothecary, Daemon Hammer x2, Halbred, Psilencer x2. 370 pts

Fast Attack:

Interceptors x10, Psycannon x2, Daemon Hammer, Psybolt. 310 pts

Heavy Support:

Dreadnought, TL Auto Cannon x2, Psybolt. 135 pts

Dreadnought, TL Auto Cannon x2, Psybolt. 135 pts

Fortification:

Aegis Defense Line, Quad Gun. 100 pts


The Psykers give me some lovely Str 6 AP 3 Large Blasts most of the time, helping me keep nasty Marines away, while the abundance of Plasma helps me deal with the inevitable occurance of Terminators or their equivalents. Monkeys provide Las Cannon support in the event of Land Raiders or equivalent. Most everything that isn't a Grey Knight proper hides behind the Line for a 4+ cover save.

I don't understand the Paladins in this list...
Wouldn't a regular unit of Terminators be just as effective (and cheaper too)?

Doesn't Coteaz get to roll on the Divination tree?

I'd be tempted to take 10-man units on foot with 2-Psycannons, maybe two of said units, instead of Paladins.

Divination is the BOMB. Amazing tree... Thiessen just -wrecks- with a lvl 1 Librarian on that tree... nevermind if they ever let a lvl 2+ guy roll on Divination. That whole tree is amazing.

The Pallys made their way in by "but you just painted us" guilt. It should also be noted that they get twice as many special weapons per 5 dudes as regular termies.

Also, Mark, Coteaz IS a level 2 guy that can roll on Divination. I've just been putzing around with Pyromancy with him for the last while.

Ripping the Paladins out gave me enough room to do a 10 man Strike Squad with Psybolt, Psycannon x2, and a Daemon Hammer as well as a 5 man Purifier Squad rocking a pair of Incinerators.

Oh god.

I'm saying it right now. Coteaz is the best HQ in the entire game of 40k, no contest.

Indeed. It is one of the many reasons why you see him in EVERY grey knight list on teh interwebs. People realized between his amazing rules, fantastic psychic ability, dirt cheapness, and Force Org manipulation he is basically an auto-include. I would argue even a Draigowing would find him helpful.

While the durability of the warband certainly leaves something to be desired when compared to the rest of the army (being T3 and mostly 5+ or 5++), they tend to make up for it with versatility and *generally* being less expensive per dude than the Knights proper are. Jokaero being the notable exception, ringing in at 35 points a head. Honestly, though, I've been running him for the longest time just waiting for a deep strike scatter where I can jump up, point at the squad, and shout out "I'VE BEEEEEEEN EXPEEEEEECTING YOUUUUUUU!".

Seriously, should have been there when Matty's Typhus dropped infront of the Defense Line.

Me: "I'VE BEEN-"

Matty: "Do you really have to do this?"

Me: "Yes, it's in the rules."

Matty: "Really?"

Me: "Yeah, totally. Right beside where you have to do the milk challenge if you run a Flying Circus list. Blame Matt Ward."

Matty: "..."

Me: "I'VE BEEEEEN EXPEEEEECTING YOUUUU!"

Typhus' mooks sucked up all the hate, but I loved getting those shots off.

Oh yeah, Coteaz is great.. hed still be great at 150 points.. 100 points is super bargain basement. He almost gurantees your opponent cant sieze which is extremly handy, unless youve got a bonus like Imotek or something. A 12 point scoring unit is just plain ridiculous to have hiding off the board and sneaking on from reserve.

I'm also a big fan of the Level 1 inqusitor Lord who can take divination as well. Prescience is a fantastic power.. the best prinmaris for sure and mkight be the best psychic power period. Reroll hits for shooting and then for assault.. for a unit of 10 grey knights/terminators blasting out str 5 shots and 2 psycannons, its borderline ridiculous.

Anyway, I have no idea why I even wrote that all out, everyone knows all about it already Smile
