Step 1: Bring any kind of walker with front armour 11+
Step 2: Assault the burna boyz with it (Dude has to choose if he overwatches before your charge roll. If he overwatches, he can't hurt your AV11/12/13 walker, if he doesn't and the walker makes it to combat, he can't overwatch again because he's engaged in combat, and charges are resolved 1 at a time)
Step 3: Assault it with what you really want to kill it with, without having to take the 15D3 S4 hits.

Not sure if this would work if they were in their battlewagon still, as they wouldn't be engaged, but in that case, I'd just let the walker pop the wagon first. Even a lowly killa kan hits a wagon on 3's with S10 AP2.... Even a Sentinel with it's S5 leg kick can do the job. Embarassing for the Orks.

hmm, that brings up an interesting point.

Maybe I will try taking those free mek upgrades with the S8 Kustum Mega Blasta. 3 shota S8 plus 12 d3 burna,,,,

thought:: if you stun a dread on its way to combat, then it would not be able to charge?

Rulebook doesn't say either way, I imagine this'll be covered in a rulebook FAQ. The Chariot rules mention that if it fails a difficult terrain test and gets immobilized, the charge fails. Using that as precedent, I'd say that the walker charge would fail should it get stunned.

I also found a blurb, while looking, that says you cannot assault a vehicle you can't hurt. So Tactical Marines with only Krak grenades and no fist or melta-bomb cannot assault a walker with front armour 13, or a land raider. (Basically, no free movement charge, unless it's possible for you to glance)

Another neat anti-overwatch tactic that Orks could utilize (and maybe guard or necrons) is to multi-assault with a fairly large unit of guys to absorb all the overwatch shots first. If 20 Necron Warriors multi-assault the battlewagon and a unit of shoota boyz, one of two things happens.
1) The Ork doesn't fire their overwatch, but I'm in combat now so they can't (warriors either make the charge or don't, better chance if multi-assaulting, depending on distances)
2) The Ork player uses their overwatch on the warriors.

In either case, now my scarabs can assault something overwatch free.

Charge with your lowest toughness dudes last, as a general rule of thumb? If I deny some S6 overwatch shooting, that's kinda nice for the scarabs.

I thought all charges were supposed to be declared at the same time, or did that change this edition thanks to random charge distance and overwatch?

You declare your charges 1 at a time, then fight them one at a time. Page 20.

You declare a charge, dude chooses if he wants to overwatch, resolve overwatch, roll charge distance | repeat until all charges declared.

Declaring a mutiple assault with a tar-pit like unit is kindof a good idea, actually, as it can potentially eat up the overwatch of the other unit, even if you don't actually make it into combat with them. Clearing the way for any glass-cannon assault units (like Daemonettes).

So, for the sake of example, I could have 5 combat squads of troop X within reasonable charge range of thing Y, I could throw squad after squad at it until thing Y dies, and then potentially have the remaining combat squads go beat on something else instead?

No...

Declare All Charges, one at a time. (overwatch happens here, and only once per phase per unit, hence the trickery)

Fight All Charges, one at a time.

You do not fight any charges until all charges have been declared.

Ok, so we were doing it more or less right in the last match I played, but I could have potential saved my Destroyer Lord in my match against Canadin by declaring the Stalker charge first, to eat the Breath of Chaos thing.

Also, even though I only used 1 attack to fell the Destroyer Lord (D3 Breath of Chaos hits), would a monstrous creature like a Lord of Change be able to shoot off all 3 of his 'guns' as over watch?

Its like shooting normally except snap fire/wall of death.. so is that's staring at you, breathing on you, and tossing a bolt of change?

And I'll have to check at home, but can you boon/gift of chaos an over watch? is that a shooting attack? I don't think it rolls to hit.... But could you turn the guy charging you into a chaos spawn?

the last i heard people were trying to argue that since they dont follow the normal rules for psykers it "counts as" a shooting weapon. I would have to say that you probably cannont overwatch them. However people want to so they make the argument.

Well, the Daemon FAQ makes no mention at all of any of the shooting attacks in Codex:Chaos Daemons being wychfire attacks. Also the codex itself makes no mention of the abilities being psychic powers in any way. They are regarded as ranged weapons. Not even "counts as", just a ranged weapon. For daemons, shooting a guy is as simple as pointing your finger and going "pow" They don't need time to concentrate to use their powers the same way a mortal needs to.

TLDR: Deamons can overwatch just fine.

I thought the same at first until I thought about a bit more. No psychic tests needed.. just purchased as a gun more or less.

They all just seem to be plain shooting attacks.. especially for the Flamers.. just a template, albeit a good one.

I was surprised when I first fought 'psychic' daemons, but my opponent showed me all the entries and they were all just shooting attacks....

I recall in the old rules that daemon powers were psychic powers they did not require a test, like warlock powers. But I guess its only magic if you summon a daemon to go pow. If the daemon is actually there, it can just kill stuff.


This however still leaves me with a question... what about boon of chaos?
