BS5 dudes snapshotting is 81% less effective than their normal shots.
BS4 dudes snapshotting is 76% less effective than their normal shots.
BS3 dudes snapshotting is 67% less effective than their normal shots.
BS2 dudes snapshotting is 50% less effective than their normal shots.

A Twin-Linked Tesla Destructor at BS 4 gets an average of 5 hits with a high standard deviation. (You'll see 3-5-8 often)
A Twin-Linked Tesla Destructor snapshotting at BS1 gets an average of 3 hits with a high standard deviation. (You'll see 0-3-6 often)

Twin-linked Tesla Destructors at S7 are effective anti-air.

BS1 has a 16.66% chance to hit, so assaulting 20 shoota boyz means you'll suffer 6 S4 hits and 1 S5 (assuming 2 big shootas)
Assaulting 10 Burna Boyz, you can expect to take 20 S4 AP5 hits
Assaulting a Ghost Ark with 10 Warriors inside, you can expect to take 3 S4 Guass hits (if you're a walker, that's one glance).
Assaulting 10 Tesla Immortals, you can expect to take 6 S5 hits (you're more likely to roll 2 sixes than just 1 six. I rolled 6 once, true story)

Basically, figure out your number of shots, multiply by 0.1666, round, and that'll be your average result.

Unless you're assaulting a unit that's heavy with flamers, overwatch isn't going to hurt your assaults too much.

First thing i thought when i saw the new snapshot rules is that low BS armies just got an upgrade.

the other thing to think about, is if your shooting heavies at zooming flyers, you might as well take the opportunity to move anyway, because sixes are sixes, no matter how you are forced to roll them.

Going in for a more thorough read of the vehicle section, I just realized the Monolith got a buff that neither myself or Mark had realized before:

Vehicles, page 71 wrote:Vehicles and Ordnance Weapons
Unlike other units, vehicles can move and fire with Ordnance weapons. However, a vehicle that fires an Ordnance weapon can only make Snap Shots with its other weapons that turn.

Let the Gauss Flux Arc fly! The Monolith just became an AA battery with four guns that can target independently while not impeding the big blast from the past.

At BS1, don't count on those shots doing anything.

The shots are still there to be had, and they really weren't there before in 5th.

The real winners are Tesla weapons.

Im liking the idea that if you charge a Big-Mek KFF Wagon with a full burna boyz squad in an attempt to destroy it you take 15 D3 or roughly 30 flamer hits.

The one thing that bothers me about overwatch is how it combos with always killing the closest guy first. Losing 1 or 2 guys isnt that bad, but if those are your front men, and now you are outa charge range..... then your squad is in a REALLY bad place, ie: right in front of a firing squad!

Other thing about Snapfire, I would have to agree that it lookds better for Orks than for Marines. Having 4 Big Shootas on a BattleWagon now means something!

That's the best part about it. Twisted Evil

Charging a fair sized squad of Burna Boyz in this edition just generally strikes me as a bad idea. That's why you drop some Str 9 pie plates on them instead!

Overwatch is a seksy counter to stop someone getting a round 1 assault off with their jump infantry. If you need 11" or 12" to assault, instead of just getting lucky and getting in there, the defenders have the ability to stop the charge by killing one or two models. Now, if you put a character in the front you can attempt Look Out Sir rolls, but as I found out last night, don't count on those either! (also, your character will be out in front)
