League Playoffs - Spring/Summer edition

Post  System Commander on Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:07 pm

Ok ok.. a new edition is upon us so let's wrap up the final 5th league and get ready for the new rules. THere weren't alot of games played this time around, so a bunch of people with just a few points squeaked into the top 8. If anyone in the playoffs cant or doesnt want to play, let me know and we'll get you replaced. As well, when I was at the den last, only 5 people had paid so at the very very least, you people in the top 8 will have to pony up your $5 if you want to participate.

Without further hesitation, the match-ups. As usual, I drew then randomly.

Pool Matrix

Scott - Termagant (1790) vs. Ben - Spamus Eatus (1700)
Dom - Dom.0 (1730) vs. Robyn - System Commander (1760)

Pool Bennet

Mark - Loreweaver (1805) vs. Beau - Roland (1775)
Tom - Planes (1745) vs. Ryan G - Gluvzer (1715)

Remember to make your army lists based on the points in the bracket next to your name. This represents where you finished in league totals.

Look like fairly balanced matches in the first round, except for 2nd place Scott takling on last place Ben.

As we did last playoffs, we're going to use the Nova missions for the playoffs. First round will be mission 1, second mission 2, and .. you guessed it, the final round will be mission 3.

http://novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Open-Final-Missions-40k.pdf

If you have any questions, leave them here.

Dom .. you got me in the first round.. we've never played before so now's our lucky chance! Get Pask warmed up..

Question: VP, is that based off of the point value of the models? I am uncertain if I have played a match based off of VP more than once, and the one time I think I might have, my opponent was gracious enough to handle the scoring for me.

Also: Dom, congratz on making the Top 8!

Yup.. VP is total points cost of unit or model.

Nope.. I trust everyone will stick to using the one list.

If any shenanigans are suspected we'll just poll previous players.

Another question: what is the time frame we have for these matches? Not so much as in game duration as for when we need to get these in for tallying. I know that I don't live in Saskatoon any more, and I just want to see what things are like for schedualling (and also for seeing if I can magically pull a Ghost Ark out of my ass in time).

So in other words: "Lets see if Tom can build a Ghost Ark in two days". Good thing I had the whole thing primed black before moving.

Round one for the grey knights. This might mark the first time Ive been out of the first round for quite awhile..

Dom made things tense for awhile there.. beating up on my dreads and having Straken almost wipe out a squad of GK himself. 6 special characters made the game move really really slow though.. otherwise things are getting better Dom.

Whilst I wait for Ryan to get back to me, I am blazing through the construction of my Ghost Ark. Once the paint dries on the guns, I'll be able to glue the whole rib assembly together. I don't think I've ever modeled a vehical this fast before, and it's still with about 6 coats of paint, not counting primer.

Oh God...

I spent over 20 hours on each Ghost Ark...

*pro-tip* Glue the guns together before gluing them into the ribs.
*pro-tip* Don't glue in the flying base.

As my match will be Wed/Thurs by the current looks of things, and I'm about 3/4 done the Ark right now, I can start taking my time with it. Also, I came to the same conclusion about the Flayer Arrays, if only by virtue of the fact it made painting them go much quicker.

Alas, the Ultramarines 1st company couldn't hold out vs. the Crons.

Mark spanked me 11-4, but I got 2 beers out of it!

One more question pops to mind, is this Swiss Style, or Round Robin?

I'll have to contact Ben and see when we can meet.

I am slightly shocked that I could place 2nd in this league while only playing 3 games.

I had 3 games IIRC. I believe Ben had *1*... Between finals for the students and end of school for the parentals... I think everyone had a hard time getting games in.
