List v Rhaevyn

Post  Lore Weaver on Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:10 pm

Here's what I'm after for a list v Rhaevyn, some small changes as I massage some points a bit, but here's the basic idea

Total == 1490 (might look to add 10 more points somewhere... maybe a jigger for my lord or something???)

HQ.
1. Stormlord 225
2. Overloard 90
- Orb, Scythe == 130
Court
2xLords with Orbs and Scythes, Mindshackle Scarabs == 70+60+20+30 == 180
2xCrypteks 50 with Tremor Staves +10 == 60
HQ = 225+130+180+60 = 595

Troops
1. 10x Warriors =130
2. 10x Warriors =130
3. 10xWarriors =130
4. 5xWarriors =65
5. 5xWarriors =65
6. 5xImmortals =85

= 130x4+85 = 605

Heavy
1. Monolith = 200
2. Annihilation Barge = 90
= 290

Mark, I just want to say I like you as a person. The list seems lacking in anti-tank and anti-infantry. Other than that it looks solid. I'll be interested to hear how the game works out.

Tim: That was kinda my reaction too. But then 40 Warriors and 5 immmortals SEEMS like it should be plenty of anti infantry. Knowing how I usually think, it's probably not.

Seems very HQ heavy, but I also realize thats b/c he's prob just giving the squads a sergeant eqv.

Also all those Gauss weapons will glance the hell out of SOMETHING.

Necrons seem very hard to nail down to me. I figured Ben and Paz would do some serious shooty damage at the tournament and annoy the hell out of ppl w/ Reanimation Protocols. That wasn't the case, obviously.

It's my anti... uhh... winning list :-) *laughs*

I think the "pro-tip" is to put my duber in a command barge and fly him over vehicles to blow them up. This list, I'm just goofing around to see how a few things perform. I might change one of the crypteks to the dustruction dude with the eldritch lance so I can have another S8 gun, instead of just the whip on the monolith.

I'm also banking on Imotek getting some lightning to blow *something* up? 'cmon 6 :-) *laughs* I could drop the barge and take 6 or 7 scarabs, which'd be swanky.

Edit: I can drop the Annihilation Barge and change a cryptek to destruction w\ a solar pulse and add 5 scarab bases. Would be 1500 points even. Oh ya, and all the lords will be leading dudes. Another option would be to drop the solar pulse and upgrade my overlord to a Phaeron so I can have two relentless squads of warriors. The immortals have the tesla guns.

I just realized... I could drop stormlord and take a destroyer lord with two wraiths. 225 points is a lot O_O he's so cool though! *laughs*

I just realized a few things, that and combined with Darren's 20% off everything in the store and my ability to make routinely poor decisions, my army list will be quite a bit different.

Likely no Stormlord either!

Something like

Overlord - Court
Destroyer Lord w\ Orb

Elites
Triarch Praetorians with Voidblades and Pistols

Troops
10 - 5 - 5 - 5 warriors
5 Immortals

Heavy
Monolith
Barge (if points left)

Fast - Scarabs (if points left)

Seems like an improvement but still a little troop heavy. I've seen nothing so far that indicates that Necrons should go for anything except the bare minimum of troops. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong because I'd like to see 20-man units of warriors on foot buffed by that 100 point character guy. And then another 10 immortals buffed by that traveller dude. That would be a cool list, until it got swept off the table:(

on the plus side, your playing against me. Smile

HQ --

1. Overlord with Orb, Scythe, Scarabs, Phaeron = 165
Court
2xLords 70 w\ orbs +60, Scythes +20, Mindscarabs +30 = +180
2xCrypteks of Destruction 70, one with Pules +20 = +90
Sub Total = 435

2. Destroyer Lord = 125
w\ Orb 30, Scarabs 20, Sepiternal Weave thingy 15 = 190
HQ Total = 625

Elites --

1. Triarch Praetorians 200
w\ voidblades & particle casters

Troops --
1. 10x Warriors 130 (Overlord Joins)
2. 10x Warriors 130 (Foot Lord Joins)
3. 5x Warriors 65 (Cryptek) (It's almost like the old Tim Tek squad!)
4. 5x Warriors 65 (Cryptek)
5. 5x Immortals 85 (Foot Lord Joins)

Heavy --
1. Monolith 200

Total == 1500

---

I think there's some interesting things this list can do. I like the small groups of 5 warriors with Destruction or Tremor Crypteks and their 36" range shooting. Either make something difficult terrain for something, Or a S8 AP2 shot for medium vehicles. We'll see how the Eldritch Lances work out. Making an opponents turn nightfight is swanky too, especially if I don't get the first turn.

At present, I feel really naked without the Rez Orbs all over the place. Hopefully that changes. I think a 10 man squad of immortals with Tesla guns with a Foot Lord w\ an Orb is a really strong troop choice though. I'm a fan of scoring units.

The Destroyer Lord and his "Prefered Enemy (Everything!)" is kinda nifty. Also... mine's painted!

The Triarch Voidblades are more interesting then I first read. They have rending (meh), but also have entropic strike! Ouch. One unsaved wound and any two wound model is nakkers. Also, 5 of them would get 15 attacks on the charge against any vehicle, dropping the armour by a couple points, then rolling to pen with their rending attacks and natural S5. Also, the S6 pistol shots offer a nice softening up too.

I think a Monolith is still a 'cron requirement, until models for the Doom Scythe and Night Scythe come out. Then everything changes.

The other thing the cool kids are doing is putting Overlords with Scythes in a command barge and popping vehicles with it. Neat idea, but I'm not going that route this time around Razz

I can't see it. Those troop units are going to get swept off the table versus well, just about anything. Gunline Tau doesn't work (as you should know) and they can outshoot this list easily. The gimmicks are cutesy, but cutesy doesn't win games. Smashing faces wins games.

You were 100% right. Monolith died on the top of turn two, didn't do anything turn one either.

I had things that performed well, or could see would perform well. The 5-man 'cron squads with Eldritch Lances worked great.

Two things that really hosed me, his entire army was fearless and essentially immune to Mindshackle Scarabs. I miss-deployed my Praetorians and they ended up being not so effective (although Mike and I could see how they'd perform better in different circumstances).

I think Destroyer Lord is less cool than I thought he'd be Razz

I really missed the Annihilation Barge, as the S7 Tesla shots would've helped in a number of circumstances. I learned quite a bit, overall.

I almost want to go out and buy another Cryptek or two Razz

Mike suggested a Ghost Ark.

I think what I really need is a Doom Scythe and Tomb Blades.

The thing about the monolith, is that its so many points and so scarey that its worth a sacrificial unit to take it out. and just about every army has something they can run up and sacrifice for it. 150 points of oblits is probably on the expensive side. I'm sure a marine army would fly 2-3 speeders with multimeltas into its face. Eldar fire dragons, etc. Its kind of the same idea as a land raider, except the land raider usually has nasties inside that will f-up whatever scratched their ride.

I think on the whole though, your on the right track. the eldritch lances worked good, except that there was only one of them in each squad, just seemed to me that there wasn't enough long range Punch to the army. and then by the time things got into range, my stuff was too close and better at CC.

I'm actually very impressed with reanimation protocols and ever-living. having to worry about your praetorians standing up again and messing up my backfield no matter how many shots i pumped into them was sobering. Even your Overlord stood up 3 times Sad

On the plus side, tims prediction was wrong, nobody ran off the table! (they just got vaporized or turned into soup cans)

all that being said, i think deployment and mobility won the day here more than anything. (GW wants you to buy transports)

I've been following your Cron threads as I'm bringing my old army out of stasis as well. Your dynasty's field research will be invaluable to my own. I plan on basing the army around big squads of immortals. At the team tourney I found that a full 10 with a res orb lord in cover is crazy hard to shift. I should mention that mindshackle scarabs should work against fearless models though Smile. It's a leadership check they need to make, not a morale check.

Ben is correct AFAIK. A leadership test is made on the leadership characteristic. Fearless only helps with morale. I mean, Daemon Princes still have to make psychic tests, right?

Ben, big units of Immortals are very hard to shift with shooting, and ridiculously easy to remove with assault. Also, they provide little or no offence on your turn. They are objective holders, nothing more. Those points spent on 5 extra Immortals could be spent on something killy (5 Immortals = 1 Annihilation Barge for example). Try it out and see, but I'm sure spending more than the bare minimum on Necron troops is a losing proposition.
