All Hallows Guard

Post  dusktiger on Thu Nov 03, 2011 10:49 pm

So my gf is making her own chaos warband, of which she's playing in the team tournament, and this is what her collection consists of thus far;

All Hallows Guard Chaos Warband

1 Chaos Lord in Power Armor - Mark of Nurgle; Daemon Weapon

1 Chaos Terminator Lord - Mark of Nurgle; Daemon Weapon

5 Chosen - 4 Lightning Claws (pair); Flamer

3 Terminators - Autocannon; Champion with Power Scythe & Combi Melta

8 Khorne Berzerkers - Skull Champion with Power Fist

8 Khorne Berzerkers - Skull Champion with Power Fist

2 Obliterators

7 Plague Marines - Personal Icon, 2 Plasma Guns, Champion with Power Fist

7 Plague Marines - Personal Icon, 2 Plasma Guns, Champion with Power Sword & Plasma Pistol

7 Plague Marines - Personal Icon, 2 Melta Guns, Champion with Power Fist

7 Plague Marines - Personal Icon, 2 Flamers, Champion with Power Sword

1 Rhino

Total Roster Cost: 2175

her collection is a fully legal F.O.C. selection of units, and only really needs to have some rhinos and predators added to it to make her more "competitive". Though i don't see tanks being a "you must take this or you will lose and suck in every game you play." since most of her troops are all Nurgle marked, or plague marines, they can shrug off enough shooting attacks that walking isn't that terrible; just means she's gonna have a harder time rushing objectives. Thats the nice thing about plague marines; one of the few units that can call autocannon attacks "small arms fire" and shrug it off, Razz.

Sadly, that's the problem with CSM. They are one of the least mobile armies in the game. Mostly due to the fact that their fast attack section is completely useless. Plague marines on foot are tough and great in a kill point mission, but in capture and control? Pretty useless. That being said, she's only 3 or 4 rhinos away from a playable list, except for the chaos lords No

yea, we're thinking of buying her some rhinos as she gets used to her squads and understands their limitations. we're just trying not to go crazy with buying stuff that makes her effective with 'this' codex when she's getting a new one in the april-june quarter; what might work now, might not later, and things that suck now, might become better.

i disagree on everyone thinking you 'have' to take a prince to be effective; if you ever get stuck into a melee with these 2 lords, you learn pretty fast that they hurt alot more than you think they should. they dont seem powerful, since people are used to the princes, but they can seriously mess you up if you underestimate them and let them get into melee. and a demon weapon that gets D6+3 attacks that always wound on 4+, and get a re-roll when striking against anything toughness 4 or lower can be deadly. trust me, she's already killed dante and his sanguinary guard a few times because i didnt think lords were very good; now i know better.

Chaos Lords are awesome, especially when they are Robyn's playing me. (Current high: 17 attacks. Killed an entire Tactical squad by himself, the next game he did 11 and took out a termie squad on his own.)

I have to agree about the mobile elements, your choices are really between overcosted bikers or overcosted jump troops. Or you can go off the deep end and run a tide of spawn.

Agreed with the need for a 3-4 Rhinos. The Berzerkers DEFINATELY need one, and the Plague Marines are WAY better when they can zip up onto an objective in their Rhino. The good thing is that the army is all there....buy the Rhinos are you are golden.

Just a personal preference, but I have never been a fan of Plague Marines with Power Weapons....Power Fists all the way for me, cause they are already Init 3.

Even though I do get lucky now and then with the Chaos Lords.. I'm with Tim.. they will greatly underperform and let you down. Well, at least compared to a DP.

One powerfist and your day is ruined.. the 5+ invul. save doesn't really help that much.. and in the end they are still only Str. 4 with no way to get it boosted... well, unless you just stick with a MOCG then your DW is at +1 str which Ive done a few times to avoid the Khorne drawback.

Im willing to bet the lords will get fixed up in the new chaos book. Bringing back some of the old Chaos gifts would do wonders.. something to give em eternal warrior... something for people to fear again.

But.. if you were looking to keep an all infantry type army then it makes sense to have a few lords.

Robyn: Like I've said, just reprint the 3.5 codex and call it "Codex: WeScrewedUpSorryGuys" and all is well:) From the rumors I think Chaos Lords and the like are going to be real monsters, with Codex: Chaos Legions supposing to be closer to Grey Knights in power, etc than Space Marines.

I suppose it's really whether she wants a competitive list or a casual, fluffier list. Nothing wrong with either,

And I maintain it should have been a Khorne army:)

Lmao beau. Well she does have the 2 zerk units, but "zombie" marines appealed to her more when I coaxed her into playing. She's playing for the fluffy coolness, rather than competitiveness; she's not an aggressive enough gamer to make those kinda lists and play them how they should. That said, you guys know she's always gonna be a friendly game to face. Assuming they don't make her army list super mean

even with a new codex, i cant see GW letting go of the cash cow of selling $40 models that cost 35 points.

Maybe hold off on the Predators. but not the rhinos.
