SOB Builds
So with the new rules only half out. Has anyone played with possible army builds yet with the SOB? Yes the points are unkonwn yet, but just looking at what we have I was looking at some units that may be viable.
I like the dominion squad, if you give them flamers you can act of faith for twin linked, extra chance to wound sounds good for auto hit and sounds better than extra chance to hit with melta or bolters?
or how about HQ choices it seems that Saint Celest. is not that big of a deal, unless she is not that many points to field. I am not that excied of the reg SOB troop choice, they seem not to impresive.

Re: SOB Builds
Well, I can tell I'm going to be fielding more Dominions that's for sure. That scout option is really looking good and gives them the speed to be viable. The thing is deciding to either put them in Immolators or Rhinos. Immolators are more versatile and dangerous to the enemy but from what I'm hearing on the rumor front, Dominions are going the same way as Marines in that you need a full squad of ten to field four special weapons. Otherwise you're limited to just two if you don't take a Rhino.
Saint Celestine I'm actually liking again. If I do put her in the list, I'd definitely pair her with a Seraphim squad for some really good muscle in and out of close combat. If I didn't take Celestine, I'd definitely consider a Cannoness with a command squad, in a Rhino of course. That whole squad looks really beefy compared to normal sisters and with the combined faith effects, they can close into optimal firing range easily and then survive the reprisal.
Repentia finally are getting the feel no pain rule that they've been needing for a long time, that coupled with the rage and fleet special rules means that you can get more crazy chainsaw chicks on target faster. I'd be interested in seeing how a squad of Repentia paired with a few Penitent Engines would work together.
As for the Engines, they're still open topped, which is understandable honestly due to the fluff and model, but the tweeks to the combat systems are definitely a plus. Doubling successful attacks is an insane amount of dreadnaught wounds if you roll well. Plus now all sisters vehicles have a 6++ invul save, not something to rely on but much better than nothing.
The rest of the vehicles seem to not have changed at all really besides the inclusion of smoke launchers by default and the invul save. The exorcist is looking to be keeping it's same stat line as before and Rhinos and Immolators are pretty much the same too. I was hoping for GW to include that FW transport, I can't remember the name at the moment, that has fire points for bolter sisters as well as a front mounted heavy flamer but it seems that's too much to ask for. :p
From what I can see, Arcos are going to be relegated to bodyguard duty for confessors. Not too sure about that but it's good that you don't need to include a friggn' priest to field them anymore.
The one thing that is really put into a new light are Retributors. Putting a squad of ten in a Rhino with four heavy flamers looks like a solid tactic now, especially once delivered to their target, you've got at least four S5 flamer templates that can be turned into rending wounds. Very nice against anything. Though assuming that Sisters heavy flamers are still considered Assault 1.
Overall, I'd probably build a list something like this.
1-2 Dominion squads in Immolators (One Melta and one Flamer)
2-3 Sister squads in Rhinos
1 Seriphim squad
1 Saint Celestine
1 Repentia squad
1 Penitent Engine squad
2 Exorcists
Depending on point costs and everything though. If points allow I'd probably put in the Retributors.
Overall it gives a good mix of heavy firepower with surprising close combat ability to finish off what's left.

Re: SOB Builds
With the way faith points work, wouldn't MSU in Immolators be the most viable build.
I actually like SOB, but there is no way I'm buying them until they get plastic. I priced out a 1500 pt build, and they are by far the most expenvise army in 40K, beating Guard, metal GK, and Eldar by a huge margin.
I would prolly field something like this (totally weak list, more for a fun/modeling list)
Palatine
Celestian Command Squad in Immolator
Sisters Repentia
2-3 Battle Sisters Squads in Rhinos
Dominion Squad in Immolator
Seraphim
Retributors
Exorcist
Like I said its a crap list, but it ca be expanded pretty easy.

Re: SOB Builds
so far looking at how the points are
St celestine
jacobus
battle conlave (4 arcos, crusader)
battle sister with hvy flamer+flamer+rhino
battle sister with meltax2+rhino
seraphim(inferno pistols, plasm pistol power wp)
dominion flamers+immolator
retributers
exorcistx2
repentia squad
This something that I will field as these are the models that I already have. I am still looking for a couple to purchase (couple of crusaders, death cult assasins, 2 sisters with meltas and a couple of seraphim)

Re: SOB Builds
Ok so I took the list above and added a few things, 2000 pts on the nose.
Anybody wanna guess the cost of all those models? I threw up in my mouth a little when I priced it out.

Re: SOB Builds
the cost to actually buy a SOB army is a lot to bear for most people. some of us old people already have a army, I remember when you could buy a squad of 10 of them lol. seeing as already have a SOB army....not the build I want. I think people who are going to want to play them will have some play as units. or will take razorbacks and modify them for immolators or make their own exorcists. I personally do not like the GW model they currently have for the exorcist, the forge world one is ok though.
I am interested in the cost you have to make your list.

Re: SOB Builds
Selik: $1159.25
one THOUSAND fifty nine. And yes, the primary culprit is the entire range is metal and blister based. I think we're all aware it's expensive hobby, but this is just pure stupidity. If I want a Sisters army, I'll just wait for plastics or use SM and get pink spray paint.
One of my slight OCD tendencies is the actual COST ($$) of lists. Somewhere between a 5:1 and 3:1 point:dollar(US) ratio is "normal" you can roughly multiply those by 1.2 for the Canadian "exchange". We're still way the hell out of whack with this. I'd expect a 2000 pt army to run between $400-650 (US). This is double the high end, and its not even a optimized list. Craziness.
A plastic sisters box (10 for 39.50) with all the options would drop that by more than half.

Re: SOB Builds
I agree that a plastic sists box would make the army much more feasable for players to purchase. I have been playing with lists that I can create with the current models that I do have, I have at least one of every unit now. although I am short on hvy bolters for them. who knew I would need them.
