Help with puppy terminators Empty Help with puppy terminators

Post  jhare Mon Sep 27, 2010 7:18 pm

Hi,

Well, I'm building my space wolf terminators. I'd like suggestions about weaponry to out fit with. So here's what I've got so far:

1 with Assault cannon (need 2nd weapon)
1 with thunder hammer and storm shield
1 with thunder hammer (need 2nd weapon)
1 with storm bolter and wolf claw
1 with combi weapon (melta)

Nothing else selected yet though I am building a rune priest.

So suggestion for good weapon combos. I've read a bunch but suggestions would be great.

Thanks
James

Because of how costly termies are, I would say that unless they have an assault cannon+missle launcher, they should have Thunder Hammers and Storm Sheilds. The storm bolters are not too usefull, and TH is just better than a Powerfist.

Giving the squad a 3+ average invulnerable save will make it MUCH more survivable. Im not sure how you are allowed to equip the whole squad, but if I had a choice it would be 2 guys wth Assault Cannon+Missles, and rest with TH and SS

Canadin=Dude, Wolf termi's are totally diff. from regular ones. Whats the point of offering advice if you know nothing of the unit you're talking about?

Jhare= From painting Mike's wolf termies and reading tactica on the unit, here's my suggestion:

1 with Assault cannon (need 2nd weapon)= wolf claw
1 with thunder hammer and storm shield
1 with thunder hammer (need 2nd weapon)= ss i guess?
1 with storm bolter and wolf claw
1 with combi weapon (melta)= wolf claw

Wolf claws are great. Super great. Termies are great against medium infantry because of their great armor, tagging them out to fight big things like MC's is a waste, as THSS combos are expensive, and it basically negates the 2+ they come with. Vulkan marines are one of the only really useful ways to run THSS termies, wolves are better at having the CSM termie wargear basically.
for a shooty squad, I would take the missile launcher thingamajig (2 krak or frag a turn? heck yeah!) and storm bolters, wolf claws and maybe one or two fists in there for safety.
For vehicle killing, go the chaos way, small squad with all combi-melta's. boom!

Ive played against many terminators, and have gone over how several codex'es can deploy them.

Raising their invul save is the only way that I have seen them make their point value, either Icon of Tzeentch or TH/SS. otherwise they will die too easily to meltas, plasma, Demolishers, or whatever else has AP1 or AP2. I have never seen termies kit'ed out for shooting ever do very much, except for the assault cannon (ever since it become rending).

As for the wolf claws, I have seen them in action; They can be used against light infantry, in which case any loadout for termies shouldnt lose anyways. They can go vs heavy infantry which would be their best case scenario, but the TH/SS combos allow you to 1shot special characters that are hiding within the heavy infantry, Or they can go up vs Monstrous creatures in which case the TH/SS combo is more likely to wound still, and slows down your target to Init 1 if you fail to kill it.

As for Terminator Suicide squads, (minimum unit with combi-melta) that is only viable if you have enough teleporter homers on the feild to support them deploying exactly where you want. Chaos has an easier job with that because every squad's "Buffing Icon" counts as a teleport homer, rather than forcing you to pay for it as an extra cost.

In general termies are overcosted and not worth the 2.5 dudes in power armour that you could deploy instead. The only exception to this that I have seen is the AssCannon/MissileShoulders variants and the TH/SS variants

Wolf suicide squads are a little less suicide though. They can take a drop pod. Problem solved.

Help with puppy terminators Empty Re Puppy terimators

Well having played terminators in my army I must say ALWAYS GO WITH THE ASSAULT CANNON. Its kick ass against any kind of infantry or MC and it can still easily take down armor 12 13. Armor 14 would be pushing it. Since I am just basic SM with my terminators I can only take power fists. But if I had a choice I would take a Thunder Hammer for the above reasons. Well I guess you could say I could upgrade to a chain fist. But any way I guess my main point would be is to go with the assault cannon as much as possible.

A good weapon combajation is all wolf claws with the wolf priest. They will reroll every thing but saves in combat making them hard to beat with 4 attacks each on charge.

Thought I'd post since I actually play Space Wolves...

A TH/SS combo on Wolfguard sets you back ~68 pts therefore I'm not a big fan.
A Wolfclaw and Storm Bolter combo costs 38 pts making it a much more attractive option (imo).

My unit I run with a Rune Priest is as follows:
1 Cyclone Launcher + Wolfclaw;
1 Storm Bolter + Chainfist;
3 Storm Bolters + Wolf Claws;
1 Rune Priest with Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane and Terminator Armor.

That unit packs a ton of anti-infantry shooting, can tackle AV12 or less and will have zero problem munching through 12 power armored guys in an assault (to answer Canadin's 2-1 ratio arguement). They've also held up surprisingly well against other TH/SS terminators because they strike first, deliver consistent wounds due to rerolls and still have a 5+ inv save.

The most important thing to remember is your SW terminators want to target the squishy stuff because you have tubby Wolf Lords running around squishing the scary stuff.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the help. I've got enough guys to build at least 2 five guy squads if I'm careful. I'll get one squad built with the suggestions here about the bolters and wolf claws and then play test the hammers.

Where do people get the cyclone missle launcher? Does anyone have one to trade?

Thanks
