New Eldar Army Empty New Eldar Army

Post  Guest Tue Apr 20, 2010 2:25 pm

Hey guys, I'm just sitting at school and bored, and thouht I'd take the time to type out the new army I want to build to get some opinions on it. I went and impulse bought some stuff to start me off, and I'm looking forward to painting up some eldar. Since it will be lower model count than my guard I want to take my time and make em look real good. Anyway, on to the list!

***Updated List***

Eldrad
5 x Warlock, 2 destructors, embolden, enhance
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones and Shuriken Cannon

6 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones and Shuriken Cannon

6 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones and Shuriken Cannon

7 Howling Banshees
plus Exarch with executioner
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones and Shuriken Cannon

10 Dire Avengers
Exarch with Bladestorm + dual Catapults
Wave Serpent with Spirit Stones and Bright Lance

5 Dire Avengers (in falcon)

3 Jetbike Guardians

Fire Prism

Fire Prism

Falcon
Spirit Stones, Holo Field, Scatter Laser

If I'm not mistaken (since I'm at school), this comes out to about 1970 points. What do you figure?

New Eldar Army Empty Re: New Eldar Army

I would consider switching out the Farseer for a counts as Eldrad (hes just a lil more expensive; but a TON more powerful)

And possibly switching the banshees for something else (more troops for objectives maybe?)
Anything you want to kill with banshees you can do better with the Dragons and Fire Prisms

--But you only have 2 troops; Eldar have great cheap objective grabbing troops (like Bikes and pathfinders) I would suggest you grab 1 or 2 more untis of troops

otherwise looks very solid Eldar Mech

New Eldar Army Empty re eldar list

Post  Commander James of the Ul Tue Apr 20, 2010 4:36 pm

Hmmm interesting, finally an eldar list with 2 prism cannons. I'd maybe put some Warp Spiders in and replace a squad of Fire Dragon. You already have 2 prisms so I wouldn't be to worried about tank blasting ya all the time. And the spiders will make your troops a lot more mobile. But I can't remember the points for the spiders. Love to see how the two Prisms do on the field.

I would take pathfinders and just leave them on an objective try to grab a cover save. I love to do that. I don't remember at this moment but the weapon that's str. 5 or 6 and it's assault 4. I would take those on the wave serpents if points allow.

All in all, not a bad list. Mobile, packing some punch, and Aspect Warrior heavy. I will provide a tad bit of feedback on this and some of the comments.

First, Eldrad is awesome. However, giving both of the Runes to your Farseer makes him a cheaper close second.

Warp Spiders are like 23pts a piece for a S6 gun that doesn't ignore armor saves. While I personally love them, a squad of Fire Dragons in a Serpent is simply better at killing High T monsters with a solid save. And WAY better at popping tanks.

I would maybe do some jiggling around of squad sizes, making the DA squad larger and shrinking the Banshee's to 6 (and flipping around their transports). 10 Banshee's is over-kill by a large margin for most targets, especially if they are operating with doom.

As a regular Eldar player, may I say welcome to the Doomed Race. Also, pick you spot in the opponents army and hit it hard. Trust me, it is easier said than done. Wink

Thanks for the comments guys. I may definitely consider dropping a warlock to switch the seer to an eldrad counts as (since this is clearly looking like a biel tan army!).

Say I get 6 banshees to charge, I get 18 attacks, 9 hit, 3 wound, then a further 2 wound on my doom re-roll. I killed 5 marines, and likely will have more to face. By making the unit size large, I can use them more independently (though not far from anything else). This is, of course, coming from a guy who hasn't fielded an eldar army in years.

As far as the idea of plopping pathfinders/rangers down, I just feel that they would be an easy target, and would contribute very little to this list. Same goes for bikes. If i picked up a minimum size bike squad or 2, they would soak up points and do very little, other than eat some plasma. I guess holding min. squad in reserve could be handy, having them turbo boost around. I might drop a dragon out of either one of the squads to save a few points as well in order to do that. I could then drop a banshee or 2 to free up enough points to squeeze in a min sized bike squad, to give me a bit more of a chance in objective missions.

I've edited the first post to reflect possible changes.

I wouldn't worry too much about controlling objectives, so much as being able to contest them. Remember, you only need one transport stuffed with a Troops choice to control one objective more than your opponent. While I don't always win with my Eldar, I have found that those empty Wave Serpent can be useful for contesting anything anywhere.

Your fear of just taking a troop choice to drop on an objective is well grounded, in my opinion. Pathfinders are NOT cheap, as 5 run you 120 points, and a 10man squad is a full 240. In addition, they are only as good as their cover save allows. They stand up to about 0 punishment from long-ranged L.Blast weapons that ignore cover (i.e., Castellan missiles from Codex: Space Marines) or from Flamers of any variety. While they can soak up a lot of punishment from vanilla small arms fire, I will still take a Squad of Avengers in a transport before a squad of pathfinders.

Any opinion in dropping the warlocks and going back to a regular farseer and picking up another troop choice in a serpent? Either another avenger squad or a storm guardian squad with flamers and destructor?

I would keep the Locks and Eldrad. When Fortuned, even 5 of them can soak up a disgusting amount of punishment. They can also dis out a ton, with 2+ to wound weapons that are S9 vs vehicles. Crash them into a Dreadnought, and see who is laughing on the other end.
