The Fleshworks
So, here be my new Chaos Space Marine painting Blog. This will be my broken, sporadic, and slightly irregular progress tracker for the painting of the rather disturbingly large pile of Chaos stuff that is sitting by my desk.
Anyway, here are some pics of what is done. It isn't much, but it is a start.
Fabius Bile, The Primogenitor of Chaos Undivided
Lucius the Eternal
Fabius' Children
What is painted so far

Re: The Fleshworks
These guys are coming along nicely. Its to bad Lucius isn't the butt kicker inthe book as he is in the fluff, at least for now. With the way the new books have been going, especially with the Space marine character, I imagine any reworking of the named fellas here will be kick ass. If any needs the eternal warrior, its definitely Lucius the Eternal..
Thats the one thing Ive never used or ever faced in the Chaos book, Fabius Bile and some mutated marines. I think they'd be really good, but just never got around to making any.

Purple: Liche Purple
Pink: Warlock Purple
Wash: Baal Red
Metal is done with: Tin Bitz, the Light Dwarf Bronze dry-brush highlight, then liberal wash of Devlan Mud. Gives a metal look w/o being shiny metal. Personally, I love it.

Stealing this technique for... something, but it looks damn nice. Perhaps a few necrons will be snazzed up from purple... or demoted... lolTerran wrote:Metal is done with: Tin Bitz, the Light Dwarf Bronze dry-brush highlight, then liberal wash of Devlan Mud. I will bring a Necron Lord I painted way back in the day to the Den some time. I used the same technique, so you can see what you think.

Re: The Fleshworks
Ok, so I was able to finish my first CSM squad inc. Aspiring Champion and 3 Possessed before I got sucked into Final Fantasy 13. Here are some pics.
Flamer & Melta Guys
Aspiring champion (sorry for the blurry pics, my camera started acting weird)
The Rejected[b]
Aspiring Champ.
Other Possessed (Chompy and Angry)
Anyway, hope you like the progress.

Re: The Fleshworks
And I am still cracking away at the pile of Chaos stuff. I painted up 2 Sorcerer's I had grabbed way back in the day for painting projects. I decided to do both of them up as replacements for Lucius. I hope you enjoy.
Glorion the Flesh-shaper:
and a much harsher, less flattering pic (so the colors show a little better)
Altarus the Ascended:
The next squad to be Primed and Painted:
But wait, I thought that Champion had a Power Fist? That is right....MAGNETS!

Re: The Fleshworks
interesting stuff there Reagan! One suggestion on the cloth. You are using a vibrant dark purple for the shadows, and a vibrant pink-purple for the highlights. This can look a little wierd. I would suggest:
Dark purple for shadows. Add a smidgen of yellow to the mix, its a complimentary color, and will dull the strength of the purple. Black also helps.
Over several layers, building to the highlights, add more light purple, and then a little white. You will get a much more realistic look.
Peace!

Re: The Fleshworks
do it I'd love to see how the effect plays out. especially for scenery building, it could be used to add life to some metallic parts.Terran wrote:I will bring a Necron Lord I painted way back in the day to the Den some time. I used the same technique, so you can see what you think.
metallics and I have a bit of a grudge match with each other. there's so many ways of doing them, but I can never find something that I like.

Re: The Fleshworks
Talk about sporadic. Paz's update guilted me into posting some pics of my own. Trust me, there has been much progress since my last post. I have deviated a bit from the pure enhanced, genetic deviance theme. This is mainly because Possessed are far too expensive for what they offer, though they are still my favorite Chaos models. I have also painted up a daemon prince to use in large games. Anyway, here are some pics:
Daemodand the Exalted:
He needs a bit of cleaning up on the gray highlights, but I am quite pleased with how he turned out.
Nathaniel the Crafted:
This is a Chaos Lord w/ Daemon Weapon, Mark of Slaanesh, and a Mount. Yes, he is walking beside his mount. My sculpting skills just aren't good enough to do him justice, so he will be holding a leash made of a broken necklace when I get my hands on one. He is far and away one of the fastest things in the chaos codex. I used him to good effect in two games, and he paid for himself almost twice over against Randy's nids. Not a 'take all the time' HQ, but fun for the occasional game.
Obliterators:
A third one is on the way, and will be another converted techmarine. I will hopefully improve on what I learned from the first guy.
Dreadnought:
Ok, I admit it, I like dreadnoughts. However, this guy is being retired for a while. Over the last two months, he has actually killed more of my own guys that my opponents. Even though Fire Frenzy rolls should be fairly infrequent, I seem to roll =I=censor=I=-tons of them. He is hitting the shelf for a bit. The new Venerable dreadnought kit is pretty sweet for converting with, though.
More pics will come tomorrow. Company just arrived.
