The concentrated awesome just made my eyes bleed. Pardon me while I blow the dust from my Banshee bomb. Wink

am I correct in my reading that they are on foot/deep-striking/being kciked from a thunderhawk? None of your rainbow raiders?

It's an amusing list to be certain, spamming terminators is always funny.

But... is it powerful? Not at all. My Necrons could table this.

"hey Matt, this is cool and all but my army can table this, I know it cuz I am le psychic, have been playing for years, and am not guessing based on online prejudice and retard math-hammer, which never seems to apply!!"

"dur, this list is stupid and will lose cuz its deathwing"

OR...

Cool beans. interesting list, I haven't seen one like this out yet at the den, it should be a different take on the deathwing. Might I suggest some drop-pods? Adds some mobility, and space wolves are the only dudes who get them for termies, other than BT, I do believe. Plus seeing abaddon on the field with all termies= psychologically terrifying!

I didn't say it was stupid nor would lose because it's deathwing. I said it was like deathwing and therefor not a new sight on the field. Also i made fun of matt because it's part of my goal in life to annoy him.

blood angels WD dex can take drop pods for termies.

You are right about the psychology though paz. And i do think the list might work, but footsloggin terminators aren't that amazing and they would definately benefit with a drop pod upgrade. unfortunately you can only take 5 termies per pod (i think) and that would raise the total cost of the army by a bunch more, unless you dropped your numbers, but then it becomes a small termie list which doesn't create the same psychological tension in your opponent.

Props to the two of you for thinking it up though cheers

31 terminators and a dreadnought... Definitely SOUNDS cool, and I'm sure it'd look awesome on the table, but I have to agree that it needs some mode of transportation. If those're footslogging up the fields, there's plenty o' time for even a moderately shooty army to take'em out(Space wolf termies are still T4, 1 wound, 2+/5++ right?). I say bump it up to a flat 2K list and add some pods.
Besides, spez marinez dropping from the sky is always awesome.

So in conclusion:
31 termies and a dreadnought - cool
31 termies and a dreadnought LANDING ON YOUR HEAD - cool AND scary.

I agree with jim, this list was forged in dank corridors of bad weed car drive, if you add drop pods it might play a mental game with someone but if you walk them up the table and give even close combat armies a chance to make you swallow a bullets like some kind of military grade Japanese porno.

Also note just to irritate Paz, Alex is right, he doesn't have to be psychic to see necrons beating this army, highly mobile shooty army vs low mobility (better at close combat) army. Plus the major disadvantage that necrons have (ALWAYS getting sweeping advanced) is negated by terminator armor.

This list will be super fun to play against matt but I think you'll only play it once. With the pods it will become an extremely powerful list, hell even deepstriking them will be kinda cool, but marching them post haste across the board will probably only be done once by you, although you're thick skulled so lets say 6 times.

PS - Lets play some fricken space hulk you =I=censor=I=!

Until you face something like IG with mystics, and realize that half your army is dead before it even got out of the pods. lol

fortunately for him though Alex, I've never seen anybody other than myself use Mystics. And even then, my best shooting unit couldn't drop 10 terminators in 1 shot, and its hard to place the mystics to cover everything. Mystics don't beat deep strike, they just make it less apealing.

Jim= Agreed! I played footslogging deathwing at the PA tournie with Daemons, and pretty much tabled them. Drop-pods are visually kickass, and much better.

Tom= but I agree with the drop-pod ideaz! I suggested it yo yo.

HC= That's what ppl said about mystics and my daemons, and I've only played against guard using them once, and it still wasn't that bad.

I love terminators, and even more so love the look of an all terminator army. That being said, I've never seen one actually do well. In the end your just to outnumbered.. and even if you can beat the hell out of everything that come close, you end just being tied up for so long that you can't get everywhere, or your armour saves eventually catch up to you. However, you'll always get votes at events for cool looking army, scariest army, etc.. unless they are painted 8 different colors.

PS : I could table you with my fantasy beastmen army.

OH SNAP! are you going to let that one stand there Matt? I think Robyn has insulted your honour, slapped you with some form of gauntlet, and said that you smell of elderberries all at once. But I think it would be a good Apoc list with the Lords as well.

hmm, well, I think with proper "castle" deployment, the mystics could cover deep strike zones and what unit you want to shoot at them with.

unless I forgot the mystics rule, you are allowed free shots at EVERY unit that comes down. so if he's plunking a whole bunch of terminators, shoot something like, say, manticores or hydras or plasma spamming russes and thar'll be some dead terminators (either because they "only" have a 5+ save or because you inflict so many wounds on them they have to fail some eventually)

but yes, you are correct, it's not as powerful as my rhetoric suggests Smile

For the mystics, if you have one mystic, the unit your in gets a free roundof shooting if something deep strikes within 4d6". If you have two though, yeah, you can desginate another unit wihin 12" I believe to shoot at that deep striking unit.

I ve never taken two before, but I always take one in my inqusitors unit, which consists of a bs 2 lord with psycannon, and heavy bolter servitors. There are scarier things you can for sure, but I'm more then happy if my 12 point mystic means I get even a few kills out of him. What he does best though is force those deep strikers to come in a little farther away... which I find much more valuable.

Whenever a daemon enters play or a unit deepstrikes, roll 4d6. IF the unit entering play is within that many Inches of the Inq squad, you can shoot at them. If you have 1 Mystic, the Inq squad itself can shoot. If you have 2 or more, you may nominate a unit within 12" of the INQ to take the shots instead.

The problem is, they can drop somewhere you can't get a good shot at them with your 'big guns' (In my case the Leman Russ), or he can drop them further away and hope you roll lower (Avg 14 inches, max 24). AND Unless you're using multiple inquisitor squads all with mystics, you can't cover both flanks at the same time. He may be landing 30" from your INQ squad, but only 10" from another unit.
I still take them every game, though. Either you get to shoot the deepstriker, or you deny him access to a certain area. Either way they're worth their points (And as robyn said, BS 5 Psycannon+ 3 BS 4 Heavy Bolters is some droolworthy dakka, so why not?)

Well, I could table... your mother! with just a beastlord. one up that!
I allready did. Table your mother that is. Surprised
Um.. er.. maybe I should stop, these boards are s'posed to be PG.. Sorry, got carried away.

PS... what's 'castle' deployment? I can have a castle now? HOW COME NOBODY TOLD ME!!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, what's this castle deployment you're talking about?

Castling is when you pick a corner and play defensively by forming walls using vehicles and cover. Little tougher to do now adays with all the flank marching and deep striking though.

Did you see my game of marines against Joe's daemons? That is "castling" - the proper way to handle deep strike and (most) out-flanking.

My deployment wasn't the best, but the concept is still the same; you put the important stuff at the back and guard your outer lines with bubblewrap units (Kroot, guardsmen, etc). The opponent has to eat through your lines of defence to get to what's killing him; usually by the time he makes it he's dead or you've zoomed away.

Or in the case of my marines vs. daemons, put what is the most difficult to kill (Raiders) blocking the squishier stuff whilst it pew pews the stuff trying to gank you.

My Necrons play on a similar theme, by "layering" the units according to importance. Assault armies, like deathwing, get stopped cold in their tracks; I have a semi mobile shooty army with units I can easily sacrifice (scarabs, warriors) in order to protect my important stuff (destroyers). Unfortunately, against shooting armies the necrons fall flat because the destroyers can be picked out and once they (and the immortals) die, the necron army stops working.

I think the wolf terminators in a pod would be really good. That said, the whole army is cool but if you take what you use now matt then add some termies instead of something else it would be better. or take land raiders. that would be even better. My 5 man termie in land raider owned so much stuff in the pa tournament and without them im sure i would have lost by a lot more.

castling vs daemons= bad idea. I've faced a couple of opponents who have done that, and the outcome is the same. If I manage to get even half my units in second turn, and I have dropped my my high toughness icon bearers in, your army in now boxed in by daemons, and in big trouble.

This may work against the terminators though, as they can't hit as hard as daemons, and have less survivability facing high AP weapons.

Joe says the same thing, but I thought the tactic worked pretty well. An army with proper bubblewrap (marines have no bubblewrap really), it would irritate the daemons as it takes you 2-3 turns to start killing the things that are killing you. That's a lot of dead Daemons.

Icons are easy to stop. Things like Land Speeders can block them, or in the case of the game I had, they were too far away for me to care.

However, I will admit that I'm not certain if it's the best method for marines.

Daemons die in droves more than terminators, I find. Low AP weaponry is often reserved for vehicles in the form of AP1. An army that has a lot of guns will mulch Daemons a lot more than terminators. Or in the example of my marines, flamer templates denying cover and having to re-roll the already low save on many daemons.
