Raveners: Thoughts and Opinons.

Post  Cjihad on Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:21 am

I've used 2-3 of them a few times and they usually have decent results while playing.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience using Raveners?

How do you think three squads of 6 raveners would preform?

they are a fun unit to use they can move extremely fast i was using a squad of 3 for a while but for the points its hard to take that many. 40 points with rending is a fair bit (but 5 attacks on the 12inch charge is nice). the big thing is the lack of flesh hooks means you cant charge anything close to marines in cover. t4 with 5+ save is going to die from marines before they attack but that's just what I've found.

What weapon options do you put on them?

rending is a good choice so they they can hurt more armored stuff.
guns actually can do something on them they hit on 4s and can get 6 devourer shots each.
now I'm getting thoughts of deep striking 6 of them with 36 devourer shots into a squad...

36 devorer shots into a sqaud could hurt. I don't use raveners because of there point cost. 40 points is a little much Crying or Very sad

Isn't this all moot anyway? This is like, the absolute worst time to build a Tyranid army. Isn't the new book out in 5 minutes?

I've been using a squad of six with scything and rending for my last few games and they have done pretty good. I was just curious if anyone had used large amounts of them to any effect.

They do cost alot of points and there are other nid units that do the same role for less points , but they are very fast, can deep strike, get loads of attacks, and look great.

I hadn't actually thought of using them for deep striking and then shooting. I think they probably would only get about 1 turn of shooting before being killed or getting into assault, but i'll have to try it.

Thanks Cam thats what I was going for.
